Temporary Residency Visa Programs

What is a Canadian Temporary Resident Visa?

Canada’s Temporary Resident Visas are a type of visa for people who want to visit Canada for a short period of time, usually 6 months or less. They are used for a variety of reasons, including tourism, business, family visits, and so on.

If you have one of these visas, you can live in Canada for a limited time. You will be unable to apply for Canadian citizenship, obtain Canadian official documents, or claim Canadian benefits such as health coverage.

You are only allowed to stay in Canada for the purpose for which you applied, and you are not permitted to work or study there for an extended period of time. If you locate a study program that lasts 6 months or fewer, you are permitted to enroll, but only if you specify this in your application.

Working is not permitted in any other circumstances. You must also show your intention to return to your native country rather than stay in Canada.

Is it necessary for me to apply for a Temporary Residency Visa in Canada?

Visitors must have a Temporary Residency Visa (TRV) to enter Canada, however, some nationals of certain countries simply need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) or will be totally exempt and can enter free with their passports.
